Hello Nyima,

I have made no changes to my system other than installing the HP LaserJet 2300 printer about 3 months ago (Dec 25th to be exact) and the Microsoft driver update for HP LaserJet 2300 Series PCL 5 failed to install. Since that date, View Update History shows it's been 'successfully' installed 175 times!!! I have removed the USB cable and remove the HP LaserJet 2300 printer from Printers and then the driver stops installing itself. I waited 3 days to verify and confirmed Windows 10 did not reinstall the driver.

I then reconnected the printer and the madness continues! My computer was turned on at 5pm today, it's 7:30pm and the driver's been 'successfully' installed 6 times.

What gives?!?!

Hi..I had a similar issue with my Samsung printer..you can download the software to stop certain unwanted updates..

Hi..your Hp 2300 is about as old as my Samsung..Windows 10 kept downloading and was unsuccessful untill it finally took and now it remembers ..so no need for anymore driver downloads.

If you face the same downloads even though your printer is working fine ..I suggest the Windows Hide and Show software as I posted a few postings back on this page.

it works but you have to catch the download before it actually downloads.. and *most important..Make sure you have your Windows updates set to 'Notify' and not 'Automatic' that way you have some time to decide when to download.

wushowhide does not work for me, I have the pcl5 driver hidden and it still installs everyday.

Print management only shows pcl6 driver. The printer works fine but windows still continues to install pcl 5 driver.

Ya wonder how something so smart as a computer can be so dumb..

Thank you for your reply, I just checked it again, when selecting show hidden updates, Microsoft driver update for HP laserJet 2300 Series PCL 5”. It is the only item in there.

What is strange is that when I select “hide updates” there are 10 items in there. It says updates are available, but none of these 10 are installed, one is Microsoft Silverlight, there are other’s like canon printer mx860 series fax, and 860 series printer, Intel watchdog timer driver.Seem’s like there should be nothing in there.
