An EOS MOVIE plug-in that allows footage shot on EOS DSLRs to be edited more easily in Final Cut Pro and the Canon RAW Codec plug-in (Version 1.7) are now available to download from the Canon Software Centre.

Known as ‘EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro’ the plug-in was developed to provide an even smoother workflow for EOS MOVIE users who edit using Apple’s Final Cut Pro software suite (Versions 6.0.6 or 7.0).

The plug-in enables the ‘Log and Transfer’ of all your video footage from the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D and EOS-1D Mark IV DSLRs – all of which offer full 1080p High Definition video recording. The plug-in will convert the required EOS MOVIE footage to Apple’s high quality ProRes 4:2:2 codec at approximately twice the speed of Apple’s standard conversion, without any loss of quality relative to raw EOS DSLR data.

Without the plug-in you would have to import the MOV file from the EOS Movie into Final Cut Pro, then use the Write function to select the entire file for conversion to ProRes format via the Compressor engine. The plug-in can also be used to embed video editing information (such as timecodes, reel names and metadata) to the ProRes file quickly and easily. This further enhances the experience of EOS MOVIE users when editing their footage.

The benefits of the plug-in are a more seamless workflow, the boosting of the ProRes conversion speed, and time saving as only the required clip length is extracted for conversion.

The Canon RAW Codec Version 1.7 is a software plug-in that enables the import and display of Canon RAW image files when installed in Windows Vista (including SP1), Windows XP SP2 and XP SP3. Note that Windows Imaging Component (WIC) supported applications are required.

Changes in the Canon RAW Codec Version 1.7 include the following:

  • Support has been added for the EOS-1D Mark IV and EOS 550 DSLRs.
  • Windows7 32-bit version is now supported.
  • A fix of a problem that occurred when EOS cameras’ sRAW/mRAW images, and the PowerShot S90’s RAW images, were displayed as previews in the Photo Gallery application and the (Next) button was pressed repeatedly, which caused the application to hang for a period of time.
